A diagnosis of ADHD is made by the healthcare team following thorough assessment. See ‘How is ADHD diagnosed?’ for more information.

Symptoms they will be checking for, and may ask you about, include:

  • Short attention span
  • Distractability
  • Disorganisation
  • Forgetfulness
  • Failure to complete actions
  • Fidgeting
  • Inability to sit still
  • Being often "on the go"
  • Talking excessively
  • Interrupting other people
  • Inability to wait their turn
